This choice of peaty, earthy tones—these blacks and dark ochers—for Kozub's human forms is a reminder that in the Biblical account God made the first man out of clay. And was not woman then shaped from that same man's rib? Are we all made of moist earth topped with imperishable hair? Sooner or later this unique substance—this superfluous, frivolous element that the body can very well live without—takes leave of us; and even if it remains in place after the expiry date, it takes no part in its host's decomposition. This is the material Kozub uses to put bodies together and speak to us of life.
